SAN ANTONIO — A mother of three, missing for more than a month, has a San Antonio family on a desperate search for answers.
31-year-old Cindy Gausline was last seen leaving her east side apartment September 15. The last time anyone heard from her was that same night in a puzzling phone call.
Updates in the case were non-existent — until last week.
"This whole situation has been the hardest thing you could imagine," said Cindy's brother, James. "It's not like my sister to be gone. Not like that."
When James isn't not at work, he's searching for his baby sister.
Cindy was last seen at her apartment located at the Seven07 Lofts off 410 and east Houston. She didn't tell anyone where she was going or who she was with. That night, family members say Cindy called her daughter on Facebook messenger.
"She said she needed to talk to her. Something was going on. She was scared, but she loved her daughter...Then the call disconnected and no one's heard from her since," said Cindy's niece, Hannah Medellin, in the family's first interview with KENS 5.
Cindy, who is typically vocal on Facebook, hasn't posted since hear disappearance.
The family is sharing Cindy's picture across social media. They handed out flyers at Cindy's apartment complex. They call police every other day, but still no updates. Last week, the first development came in a routine phone call to SAPD's Missing Persons Unit.
"They've switched it from the missing persons division to a homicide, they say. There's no evidence but they can look deeper into things," said James. "Hopefully they can get something out of it."
SAPD wouldn't confirm that detail with KENS 5, but they do believe Cindy is in danger. When the missing persons report initially came out, it was categorized as a missing endangered person.
Cindy's sister-in-law, Nadine Williams, says Cindy's three children ask about her all the time.
"We don't know if she's alive. We don't know if she's dead," said Williams. "Those kids were her life, so for her to just disappear, I don't care what people say, that's not my sister-in-law. She's always keeping in touch with somebody."
The family's plea to the public: Take a look around.
"It takes five seconds to walk the trails, look around," said Williams. "While you're at the stores, look at people."
Loved ones say Cindy's three children remain in the care of family and friends.
