SA man gets 50 years for fatally shooting pregnant girlfriend in 2023

Allison Cevallos was five months pregnant at the time of the incident, authorities said. Her child couldn't be saved.

SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio man who shot and killed his pregnant girlfriend last October, resulting in the deaths of both her and her unborn child, was sentenced to 50 years in prison Monday.

Court records show Michael Palafos pleaded no contest before being convicted of two murder counts. He had also been charged with capital murder of multiple persons and aggravated assault, but those were dropped.

San Antonio police responded to Robeson and Morningview on the east side early on the morning of Oct. 20, 2023, where authorities said they found 36-year-old Allison Cevallos face-down in the passenger seat of a car and shot in the head. She was five months pregnant.

Palafos, who was 37 at the time, told police the two were sitting in the car when they began arguing. He told investigators he took a handgun out of the glove compartment, saying that they stared struggling over the firearm before "it just went off." Police said he left the scene with Cevallos still in the car and drove to a friend's house to discard the gun.

Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales in a statement called Palafos' actions "inexcusable."

"Our office is committed to ensuring justice for victims of family violence," he went on to say. "This sentence reflects our dedication to holding offenders accountable."
