SAPD: Suspect charged in deadly shooting of Sonic manager on northwest side

Joshua Albert Joseph, of New Orleans, was arrested for murder Friday morning by U.S. Marshals.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police arrested one of the suspects in connection to the fatal shooting of a Sonic manager that happened back in early July.

Joshua Albert Joseph, from New Orleans, was arrested by U.S. Marshals in the 1300 block of Patricia Drive on Friday morning. Police said Joseph and two women caused a disturbance at a Sonic restaurant on the evening of July 7 near Babcock Road and Huebner.

According to SAPD, one of the individuals tried to use counterfeit money to pay for their order. The restaurant manager, identified as 33-year-old Daniel Shrewsbury, had a slight altercation with them over the fake money. One of the women then took money from a cup that was inside the restaurant and fled to a car.

Shrewsbury followed the individuals and tried to take a picture of their license plate.

Authorities said Joseph, the alleged driver of the vehicle, got upset when he saw Shrewsbury taking a photo of the car and threatened him, saying: "You're going to get shot." The female passenger, identified as Adiah Damir Roberson, then shot Shrewsbury shortly after, police said.

Shrewsbury managed to retreat back into the Sonic after he was shot, but he was later declared dead by first responders.

"The family needs their closure and it ain't right," Joseph said, speaking to news cameras after his arrest.

Joseph said he didn't know the two women well and was recently giving them rides in order to earn some extra money for his family.

"Don't give nobody rides cause it's just gonna mess your family up," Joseph said. “I apologize for the actions of somebody  that happened to be with me and none of that shouldn't have happened the way it happened.”

Police are still searching for Roberson and the third person is considered a witness at this time.

Authorities confirmed Joseph does have a criminal history but this is the first time he has been arrested in connection to a murder.
