Teen arrested, charged with capital murder after 14-year-old gunned down in front of southeast San Antonio home

Gideon Segundo is accused of shooting Timothy Chavez after the two had arranged a meeting to sell a gun, San Antonio police say.

SAN ANTONIO — A suspect has been arrested and charged with capital murder in the shooting death of a 14-year-old San Antonio boy after police allege that the two met up to sell a gun in front of the victim's home in July

Gideon Segundo, 17, was arrested Monday, according to SAPD records. Police say they have evidence showing he was communicating with Timothy Chavez via Instagram to arrange for Chavez to sell him a firearm.

Chavez was killed July 16, one day shy of his 15th birthday, outside his own home when police allege Segundo shot him multiple times in the head and chest.

Surveillance video from the house shows a maroon four-door sedan pulling up to the residence at the time of the shooting, police say. A vehicle matching the same description is seen on neighbors' surveillance cameras speeding away from the area just after the shooting, they said.

Officers impounded a maroon vehicle from Segundo and found traces of blood on several surfaces, according to an arrest affidavit.

Segundo provided a voluntary statement to police in August, according to the affidavit. He claimed that he had been forced to lend his car and phone to another person, but police said he stopped talking after an investigator questioned him for more details.

Nobody witnessed the shooting, but some family members and neighbors told police that night that they heard a car speed off after the gunshots were fired.

A neighbor said she heard seven gunshots ring out in the neighborhood.

“And I could just hear, his sister screaming and it’s just… I could still hear that… it’s just traumatizing,” she said.

Chavez's mother, Samantha Servin, told KENS 5 in July that someone had called her son to let him know they would be pulling up outside.

She warned him about going out at night.

“It came out on video," she said. "It shows him coming out confident, comfortable. Whoever did this, he trusted them. He knew them. It sucks that even after I kept telling him, he stopped going out. He’s not in the streets or nothing; he’s at home. And they still killed him at my house.”
