Suspect accused of hitting off-duty deputy with his car arrested

The BCSO deputy was working as a crossing guard on October 3 when he was allegedly hit by the suspect driving a silver Ford Escape SUV.

SAN ANTONIO — The suspect accused of hitting an off-duty Bexar County Sheriff's Office deputy working as a crossing guard with his car has been taken into custody.

Adrian Arellano, 27, was arrested after police set up a perimeter outside an apartment complex on San Pedro Avenue at Thames Drive, just south of North Star Mall, around 3:30 a.m. Monday.

Police tell us they learned the location of the suspect who had previously been identified as Arellano.

Officers say they stopped the suspect and two others from leaving the apartment.

Arellano was arrested and the two others were detained, but police released them shortly after.

The incident happened on October 3 at St. Matthew Catholic School on Wurzbach Road near Vance Jackson Road. Investigators say a parent pulled out of the school's parking lot and blocked the SUV, which forced it to stop.

The crossing guard rolled off… breaking his foot and injuring his head.

Arellano drove off to a nearby apartment complex where he ditched the car and jumped the fence.

Surveillance video caught him in new clothes at a Motel 6 before he disappeared again.

Police tell us detectives with BCSO have been notified and will interview Arellano once he is processed into the jail.

Right now his charges include collision involving serious bodily injury and and aggravated assault against a public servant.
