Notice unsafe or illegal use of fireworks in Bexar County? Here's what to do.

The hotline's number is 210-335-0300.

SAN ANTONIO — Fireworks may be part of your holiday celebration but it's important to stay safe during the Independence Day holiday

Bexar County has created a hotline to help protect residents and report those using fireworks recklessly.

If residents see unsafe or illegal uses of fireworks out in the county they are urged to call the hotline’s number at 210-335-0300.

Fireworks within city limits are illegal and can result in a class c misdemeanor. Those carry fines anywhere from $100 to $2,000.

If you plan to use fireworks, Bexar County officials recommend:

  • Buy them from a licensed vendor.
  • Pop fireworks in a clear, outdoor environment.
  • Have a bucket of water ready to soak leftover debris.

Remember it is illegal to discharge fireworks:

  • Within 600 feet of a hospitals, schools and churches.
  • Within 100 feet of a fuel dispensing station.
  • Shooting them from a car is also prohibited.

The number for the county’s hotline is 210-335-0300. The city’s non-emergency line for reporting is 210-207-7273. And if there is an emergency you are advised to call 911.

Officials also recommend watching a public display of fireworks.
