Community gathers to support family of 14-year-old found with gunshot wounds on northwest side

The family of Augie Rangel is left with more questions than answers nearly two weeks after the 14-year-old was found on Santa Anna Street - a victim of gun violence.

SAN ANTONIO — Gone too soon, the family of Augie Rangel is still searching for answers when it comes to happened to the 14-year-old during the early morning hours of July 3. His mother, Erica Muma went door-to-door in the neighborhood her son was found to find more information about her son's death. The community came together Sunday to support the family through a fundraiser.

“My family and friends have done a lot of work on the side trying to figure out things, trying to see what really happened to my son,” Muma said.

The family has been working with investigators. Some information that’s turned up for Muma and his father Ray Alvarado are rumors from neighbors.

“As the days went on there were more people who weren’t willing to come forward before," Muma said. "They were afraid of I guess retaliation of what happened to my son.”

Rangel was found with multiple gunshot wounds on the northwest side July 3. Police responded to a shooting call at 3:45 in the morning. He was found in the middle of Santa Anna Street.

“More people are starting to come forward," she said. "‘I may have saw this, I heard this.' So I’m hoping sooner than later we can put it all together. And figure it out what happened to him.”

Alvarado says the family won't stop until they know the situation that caused his son's death.

“I feel like a lot more could be done to try to find out what happened to our son,” he said.

As they wait for answers – they’re hoping children in the community who may have information that will aid the investigation will come forward.

"He's never coming back," Muma said. "So if they know something, say something. We just want justice for him. The person who did this should not be out there living freely."
