Veteran Bexar County sheriff's deputy dies a week after suffering medical emergency while on duty

Sergeant Timothy Williams had been with the agency for nearly 33 years.

SAN ANTONIO — A 33-year veteran of the Bexar County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) died of unspecified causes Saturday, a week after he suffered a medical episode while on duty and had to be hospitalized, the agency said.

BCSO officials said the emergency happened when Sgt. Timothy Williams was in contact with a civilian motorist in the early hours of Aug. 17. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition before passing away days later.

BCSO has said authorities didn't believe there was any foul play, and the motorist was released after being questioned. Williams was with the agency since October 1991.

The Deputy Sheriff's Association of Bexar County shared via social media Wednesday that Williams was a "full body donor," meaning his body will be used for research or medical education.
