SAN ANTONIO — Three men remain jailed after a blistering attack Tuesday where more than 50 shots were fired at a northeast-side apartment complex along North Foster Road.
The name of the 18-year-old victim, who police said was shot in the head, has not been released. Police said he was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.
A 16-year-old charged in connection with the attack made his initial court appearance before Juvenile Judge Cruz Shaw on Wednesday. The teen had little to say as representatives from Juvenile Probation and the District Attorney's Office laid out a case.
The probation representative told the judge that the teen was making his first appearance ever in court and that the mother of the teen reported she had not been having problems with him at home.
However, the mom added that he had questionable behavior when he spends times with his friends.
A prosecutor agreed with a recommendation to keep the teen detained.
"A weapon was used and the victim is on a ventilator," the prosecutor said, adding the teen was not allowing himself to be adequately supervised and he could remain a danger to himself or others.
The teen's mom spoke haltingly on his behalf, telling the judge, "He's OK to come home. He don't have to be detained."
Admonishing the teen that things could be a lot worse for him if the shooting victim dies, the judge ordered the teen to remain in custody until his next hearing in 10 days.
As for the adults charged in connection with the case, they remained jailed as well as of late Wednesday.
17-year-old Javion Rangel and 19 year-old-Carmelo Converse are both behind bars and face charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
At last check, Converse was being held on a $150,000 bond, but a bond amount had yet to be listed for Rangel.
Because police have not released the name of the shooting victim, a condition update is not available at this time.
