Ex-FBI agent urges vigilance as suspect in Sonic murder makes Texas' 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list

Texas Crime Stoppers and Crime Stoppers of San Antonio combined are offering up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest.

SAN ANTONIO — A retired FBI special agent stressed the importance of heightened collaboration among the community and law enforcement as a Sonic murder suspect was just added to the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list.

“Police will often collaborate with other law enforcement agencies including federal agencies like the FBI or the US Marshals, especially if there’s a fugitive in some cases that’s crossed state lines,” said Abel Pena, who served with the FBI as a special agent for 26 years. “That’s when the FBI will get involved. It’s called the Youth FAP Warrant (Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution. There they can get federal resources to assist in the investigation in the event she has fled the state.”

Adiah Namir Roberson, 17, is wanted in the deadly shooting of Sonic manager Daniel Schrewsbury on July 7. She’s accused of murder and forgery of government documents.

Police say the shooting happened at the Sonic restaurant near Babcock and Huebner following an argument that stemmed from Roberson’s alleged stealing of $100 from the tip jar.

“I think police look at kind of the totality of everything, especially the circumstances in which this person was involved in this crime and what happened. I think there’s an urgency to find her,” Pena said.

In August, U.S. marshals arrested the alleged getaway driver Joshua Albert Joseph.

Meanwhile, San Antonio police said it’s possible Roberson is somewhere in the Austin area.

Roberson is 5-foot-5, weighs about 110 pounds and has piercings on her noise, lips, face and eyebrows.

“It’s just imperative that the community come together if they know anything, if there’s relatives of Ms. Roberson that knows anything about her whereabouts,” Pena said.

Texas Crime Stoppers and Crime Stoppers of San Antonio combined  are offering up to $10,000 for information leading to Roberson’s arrest.
