SAN ANTONIO — The Austin Spurs are heading to the home of Tejano megastar Selena: Corpus Christi.
The San Antonio Spurs' G League affiliate recently announced the team will play a regular season game in Corpus Christi for the first time in team history on Sunday, March 10 at the American Bank Center.
“We are thrilled to host and welcome the Austin Spurs into the Corpus Christi community,” said Daniel Melise, General Manager at American Bank Center in a release. “We look forward to being part of the journey for future talent of NBA.”
Austin will face the Windy City Bulls, the G League Affiliate of the Chicago Bulls, at 3 p.m. CDT.
And it won't just be a game. Austin plans to do so much in the Corpus Christi community.
Prior to the game, the Spurs Youth Basketball League will host a basketball clinic at the YMCA of the Coastal Bend on March 9. Details on the clinic will be shared at a later date.
“Corpus Christi has always been a very important community within the Spurs Family,” said Spurs Senior VP of Business Development & President of Business Operations, Tim Salier in a release. “The Austin Spurs playing a regular season game in Corpus Christi is a great way to continue to deepen the connection with Spurs Fans throughout all of South-Central Texas. We look forward to engaging with the Corpus Christi community in March with fun activations leading up to our game.”
This isn't the first time Austin has taken the basketball action on the road.
The team has played games in Laredo, Texas to thank South Texas fans for supporting the Spurs.
So mark your calendars and get ready to show off your Spurs spirit in Corpus.
