SAN ANTONIO — NBA Draft prospect Nikola Topic avoided serious injury to his left knee and will be ready for pre-draft activities, according to a report.
It's good news for the 18-year-old Serbian point guard, who is projected to be selected within the top 10 picks in the draft. Topic suffered a non-contact injury to his left knee in Game 1 of the AdmiralBet ABA League Finals versus Partizan Mozzart Bet.
A video surfaced of the point guard unable to put weight on his injured knee before was helped off the court and into the locker room.
This is the same left knee that kept him out of action for nearly four months back in January.
The San Antonio Spurs own picks 4 and 8 in the NBA Draft, and many project the team might be looking to add help at the point guard spot. They're among several lottery teams keeping an eye on Topic, whose injury wasn't as severe as it initially may have looked. He will reportedly sit out of the Adriatic League Finals to heal before participatig in draft activities.
Whether his history of injuries will force teams to pause or pass on him as a draft addition remains to be seen.
In the EuroLeague with Mega Basket, Topic averaged 18.4 points, 7.1 assists, a steal, and 25.9% from the three-point line in 12 games played during the 2023-24 season. He is a dynamic, 6-foot-6 point guard with incredible passing ability who can put pressure on defense in the paint. His defense is subpar, and his shooting ability can use work.
