Pelicans' McCollum targeting possible return to court vs. Spurs

This could be good news for the Pelicans but bad news for the Spurs.

SAN ANTONIO — According to a report via The Athletic's Shams Charania, Pelicans' CJ McCollum might return to the court versus the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night in New Orleans.

The Pelicans guard has been out since Nov. 4 with a collapsed lung.

This is obviously good news for the Pelicans but bad news for the Spurs should he return Friday.

The Spurs are currently on a 12-game losing skid and McCollum has averaged 19.4 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 31 games against San Antonio in his career.

Also, the Spurs-Pelicans matchup will be following the team's Thursday night game against the Hawks in a back-to-back set. San Antonio is winless on the second game of a back-to-back this season.

The Spurs have their work cut out for them in the coming games if they want to snap their losing skid.

And with their defense currently allowing one of the league's worst opponents points per game average at 123.3 (ranked 28th), the Spurs defense will be tested should the All-Star guard make his return versus the Silver and Black.

The current losing streak is the third-longest losing streak in franchise history. The Spurs lost 13 in a row in the 1988-89 season and 16 in a row last season.
