SAN ANTONIO — Las Vegas oddsmakers are busy with 2023-24 NBA prop futures and are updating their team win-total projection as the season moves forward.
And it is not looking great for the San Antonio Spurs.
According to Oddsmaker BetOnline, the Spurs' 2023-24 season win total went from as high as 29.5 games and is currently at 24.5 wins.
The 24.5 win projection still is higher than the preseason win projection at 22.5.
Ultimately, this should not come as a surprise.
The team is on a 12-game losing skid, owns one of the worst record in the league at 3-17, go through scoring droughts, and are losing by a margin of 15.7 points during their losing skid.
The current losing streak also is the third-longest losing streak in franchise history. The Spurs lost 13 in a row in the 1988-89 season and 16 in a row last season.
Despite the team picking up losses, players are keeping their attitude high. They see small, positive steps in the team amid the losses as well as recognizing the issues that are plaguing the team.
“Yeah, losing sucks for sure. We’re competing better, you can say that. You know we’re doing a lot of things better, just a young group and we got to learn to play 48 minutes," Devin Vassell said. "When teams are going on runs we tend to kind of slow down, or not run our offense, or just little stuff we might mess up on. So, we just got to learn how to play 48 minutes consistently.”
The Spurs slate does not get any easier.
Up next is a date with the Hawks and former Spurs Patty Mills and Dejounte Murray at the Frost Center then a visit with the Pelicans on a back-to-back set.
