Report: Spurs rumored to be a possible next stop for DeMar DeRozan

Could there be a DeRozan-Spurs reunion ahead?

SAN ANTONIO — According to the Miami Herald's sports writer Barry Jackson, the San Antonio Spurs are named as a possible landing spot for a familiar face: DeMar DeRozan.

Jackson reports that there's a possibility the Spurs will do a sign-and-trade for the former swingman.

Adding DeRozan would bring more veteran presence to the young Spurs roster after the team has reportedly signed Chris Paul.

However, the big question is whether the Spurs will agree to a trade with Chicago and who (or what) they will be willing to part with.

The team has a war chest of first and second-round picks, including the Hawks' unprotected picks in the 2025 NBA Draft.

The Bulls will likely want the Spurs to deal picks with a combination of a player (or players) currently on the roster, such as Keldon Johnson or Devin Vassell.

Things soured for the Bulls and DeRozan after Chicago’s trade for Josh Giddey. According to a report, the deal pushed DeRozan to decide he would leave the team in free agency.

DeRozan averaged 24 points per game on 48 percent shooting last season. He also recorded 4.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists.

San Antonio traded DeRozan in 2021 to the Bulls for Thaddeus Young, Al-Farouq Aminu, a protected first-round Draft pick, and two second-round draft picks.

He was a team's mentor in his final seasons with the Spurs, and playing alongside Victor Wembanyama would help space the floor for the center to operate.

He's familiar with the Spurs' system (2018-21) and can help guide the young players in the current rebuild.
