Spurs 130, Pistons 108: What they said after the game

The Spurs snapped their losing skid and Wembanyama notched his first NBA triple-double.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs picked up a road win in Detroit on Wednesday, beating the Pistons 130-108.

The Spurs recorded just five turnovers for the game and had 70 bench points while cruising to the win.

Victor Wembanyama had his first NBA triple-double with 16 points, 10 assists and 12 rebounds on the night. Jeremy Sochan had 15 points and four rebounds. Keldon Johnson added 17 points and one rebound off the bench. Devin Vassell recorded 16 points in the win while Tre Jones added 11 points and five assists.

The Spurs are 6-30 on the season, having snapped a five-game losing skid, and will next host the Charlotte Hornets on Friday night.

Here's a sample of what the teams said after the game.

SPURS

Coach Gregg Popovich:

“You know, both teams were in the same spot. We had the better of it tonight. But both teams are developing, trying to get players to understand how to play. As the future goes, we’ll see which guys stick, which guys don’t, that sort of thing. It was our night tonight, can be totally different when we play in our place.”

Jones:

“The bench was huge for us tonight. They came out from top to bottom, everybody that came in got a huge spark for us. Dom [Barlow] played really well. Blake [Wesley] came in with a huge spark. Dougie [McDermott] came in in the second half and got things going right away. The list goes on. Obviously, Keldon [Johnson] and Cedi [Osman] continuing their play as well."

Vassell:

"Even these last couple of games we've just been playing better. It feels like, to me, we're starting to get on the right track. We're starting to play together as a team. Starting to be connected on the offensive end, and the defensive end. Wemby having a triple-double tonight was huge for us."

Wembanyama:

"We've been trying different stuff all season long. Today we happened to get it all together. Made the right choices. It might be somebody else tomorrow. Against someone else the next day. It's beautiful when we play like that and get it all together."

PISTONS

Coach Monty Williams:

“Lack of focus on the game plan, and the understanding of what [San Antonio] does, as far as movement. That’s something we talked about. It was clear that this would be a tough back-to-back coming off a long road trip, but the focus and discipline wasn’t there."

Jalen Duren:

“It’s a lack of energy and effort. We’re the type of team where we need energy the whole game, we need guys to be locked on coverage and whatever we’re doing and whoever we’re playing. We don’t have as many guys that can win games when they turn it on. We don’t have that."
