SAN ANTONIO — Here's more proof of Victor Wembayama's significant impact since his arrival with the San Antonio Spurs.
The NBA announced some details of the most popular teams, players, countries, and more on the NBA App during the 2023-24 season via “Fan Favorites: The Season, powered by NBA ID."
According to the numbers, the Spurs saw the league's most significant jump in viewership, landing at No. 1 ahead of the Pacers, Rockets, Thunder, Suns, and Clippers.
In addition, the league also announced that France ranked No. 9 of the top countries with the most viewership last season.
It does correlate with the "Wemby effect."
Despite the team's 22-win season, Wembanyama was must-see television last season, and other metrics prove it.
His jersey is among the top-selling NBA jerseys for the second half of the 2023-34 season.
His No. 1 jersey ranks No. 4 in the list behind notable players such as Stephen Curry (No. 1), LeBron James (No. 2), and Jayson Tatum (No.3). No other rookie from the 2023-24 class is among the top 15.
Also, San Antonio made the top 10 in Team Merchandise sales in the second half of the season. The team lands at No. 9, just above the NBA champs, Denver Nuggets.
Wembanyma also landed among the top 10 most-viewed players of the last regular season, at No. 3, with 1.3 billion views. He ranked behind LeBron James (No. 1) and Stephen Curry (No. 2).
Moreover, Wembanyama's dunk against the Boston Celtics on Dec. 31 earned 247 million views and landed at the No. 2 spot on the list of the top five most-viewed plays.
All this sums up what all Spurs fans know: The "Wemby effect" is real.
