SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs are in the midst of a rebuild, and they say the team will not take steps to return to the NBA mountaintop.
However, Fox Sports' Nick Wright recently proposed a trade that would not only skip steps but bring LeBron James and Steph Curry to San Antonio, thus finally getting the two mega stars to the same roster.
That sounds good on paper, but at what cost? According to Wright, the price tag would be significant and involve gutting the current roster.
To bring Curry and James together in San Antonio, the Spurs must trade Keldon Johnson, Harrison Barnes, the team's first-round pick in 2027, and Minnesota's first-round pick in 2031.
In addition to this, San Antonio would trade Devin Vassell, Zach Collins, Sidy Cissoko, Atlanta's 2027 first-round pick, and Dallas' 2023 first-round pick.
Spurs fans did not agree with Wright's hypothetical trade and let him know it on social media.
Here's a sample of how much Spurs fans completely disagreed with the proposed deal:
In fairness, some Spurs fans would be on board with the deal:
As you can see, most Spurs fans are not on board with this proposed deal.
They see the team giving up too much for a pair of aged players and feel it would set the rebuild back once their playing days are over, especially if giving up some of the young players with more longevity in the deal.
How do you feel about this trade proposal? Would you want to see James and Curry end their career with the Spurs, or is this a hard pass? Let us know on X at @KENS5 and @JeffGSpursKENS5.
