Spurs' Victor Wembanyama named Rookie of the Month for February

It's the second straight Rookie of the Month honor for Wembanyama, putting him in elite company in Spurs history.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama now has a second Rookie of the Month award under his belt.

The NBA on Monday announced Wemby has won the Western Conference honor for February, less than 24 hours after accepting the trophy for his January play ahead of beating the Indiana Pacers

February was nothing short of eye-popping for Wembanyama on the stat sheet. He averaged 21.3 points, 10.7 rebounds and a league-leading 3.0 blocks in 28.9 minutes while shooting 64% from the field. He led all rookies in scoring, rebounding, steals, and blocks as the league continues to take notice of his play and poise.

This makes Wembanyama the first Spurs rookie since Tim Duncan in 1998 to win Rookie of the Month in back-to-back months.

Wemby has also reached 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 150 blocks this season, making him the third-fastest player in league history to record those numbers.

He also recorded multiple five-plus block games in the month, and became just the fourth NBA rookie in league history to record a triple-double with 10-plus blocks since David Robinson in 1990.

He also was nominated for West Player of the Month for February. That award was ultimately won by Lakers' LeBron James.
