SAN ANTONIO — If you live in San Antonio and peeked at your thermostat just before showers and storms arrived Monday afternoon, you may have noticed something the Alamo City has never seen this late into the year before: Its first 100-degree day.
Recent days have brought some of the hottest temperatures of 2021 to the metro, with the mercury consistently reaching the mid-to-high-90s. It was until Sept. 6 this year, however, that it reached triple-digits.
The previous latest date San Antonio recorded its first 100-degree day was Sept. 1, which happened in 1985. For comparison, our first 100-degree day in 2020 happened much earlier, on July 4.
An unusually wet summer in south-central Texas is at least part of the reason why 2021 hasn't had a triple-digit day until now.
