SAN ANTONIO — While San Antonio and South Texas deals with cool temperatures and some rain in the first half of the week, things are about to get really chilly.
Areas including the Hill Country and North Texas are expected to experience their first freeze of the fall this week. Low temperatures for Thursday night into Friday will be in the low 30s in Kerrville, Rocksprings and San Marcos.
That first freeze is coming about a week earlier than the average first freeze.
The cold front that is lurking over North Texas will eventually drift south over South Texas Wednesday afternoon, bringing in cooler temperatures just in time for Halloween.
Trick or treaters in San Antonio will want to hang on to their witch hats and masks! Howling wind is likely for Halloween night with wind gusts up to 25 mph. A breezy north wind will make it feel much cooler. A wind chill in the upper 30s is likely in the early afternoon.
San Antonio isn't expected to experience a freeze this time around. According to the National Weather Service, the earliest freeze in the city was October 30 in 1917. On average, there's not a freeze in the city until November 30.
