Spurs salute fans for their incredible support to start the season

"Message to the fans: We appreciate you all," Devin Vassell said.

SAN ANTONIO — To say the Spurs fanbase is excited for the new season would be a huge understatement.

The fans have been anticipating the new era in the franchise's history with Victor Wembanyama on board and have been packing the Frost Bank Center to start the season.

Take for example the home opener versus the Dallas Mavericks. Sure, the Mavs spoiled the San Antonio Spurs home season-opener but the Silver and Black faithful showed up to sell out the Frost Bank Center and cheer the team throughout the game in the closely contested game.

Fans wore their favorite player jerseys, snapped photos with their friends and family, and raised the decibel levels in the arena to maximum from pregame to the closing seconds of the game.

And that support has not gone unnoticed by the players.

"We can't say enough, Devin Vassell said. "The energy that you all bring out there is amazing. You all are the best fans in the world."

In total, 55, 656 fans have shown up at the arena. That's an average of 18,551 seats filled for a 101.1% average attendance.

"Big shout out to the fans. Message to the fans: We appreciate you all," Vassell said.

Aside from the action on the court, another reason fans are showing up is the new eats and drinks available.

The Frost Bank Center's new food item includes the Texas Smoked Wagyu Stacker. It is described as a smoked Wagyu tri-tip on sourdough bread with chipotle crema and jalapeño coleslaw. Fans can visit Section 115 to try the new food experience.

As for beverages, fans coming to home games can enjoy the Garrison Brothers Bourbon. This is a specially curated single-barrel bourbon at 94 proof and cask strength. It will be located on the Charter Level, North L Bar.

Great action on the court and the new cuisine and beverages all make for fans to show their support for the team for each and every home game of the season.

"It's been amazing having them (fans) the first two games, obviously there's a lot of excitement this year. Game one (versus Dallas) was crazy," Tre Jones said.

Indeed it has been electric at the Frost Bank Center.

The team got the crowd amped to start the season with a cell phone light show and following the home overtime win over Houston, Keldon Johnson took the arena microphone to give a huge "Go Spurs Go" shout out to the fans calling them the best in the NBA.

"I don't think I've ever seen that anywhere else. I think that's one-of-one really. So I think that's really cool," Jones said about the fans flashing their cell phone lights from their seats.

Said Jones, "We love our fans. They're the best fans in the entire NBA, and they help us get going every single night."

The Spurs will next host the Timberwolves Friday night for the team's first In-Season Tournament game. It will also mark the first time the team will wear their new City Edition uniforms and you can expect fans to once again fill the arena with cheers and applause for their beloved NBA team.

The team will need that support all season long and view the fans as their sixth man on the court.

"We need you all to keep showing up, because it's a big season for us, and we're just trying to keep getting better," Vassell said.
